The Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards

Last reviewed:

60-second summary

Understand the standards that apply to your services

The seven strengthened standards address the individual, organisational accountability, care and services, the environment, clinical care, food and nutrition, and the residential community. They took effect on 1 November 2025 alongside the new aged care regulatory framework. Applicability is not the same for every provider.

Categories 4, 5 and 6 are subject to different combinations of standards. Clinical governance has a specific application to category 4 care-management services. Standards 6 and 7 are residential-specific. Check current official guidance against your registration, service types and circumstances.

Reliable information helps leaders identify issues, assign actions and assess improvement. A dashboard or checklist alone does not establish compliance.
